June 30, 2009 doublezero Leave a comment

AURORA, Ill. (June 29, 2009)
Feld Motor Sports announced today the 2010 Monster Energy® AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, schedule that begins January 9 at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Calif., and concludes May 8 at Las Vegas’ Sam Boyd Stadium. Since its beginning in 1974, Monster Energy® Supercross has played in some of the world’s largest markets and most prestigious venues, and the 2010, 17-stop season adds to the sport’s rich heritage.

The 2009 Monster Energy® AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, was arguably the best season of all time, combining parity on the track and drama off the track, and we expect 2010 to build off of that excitement,” said Charlie Mancuso, president, Feld Motor Sports. “The championship will continue its rich history at many of the legendary stadiums that have made Monster Energy® Supercross so strong, in addition to the new tour stop at the new state-of-the-art Cowboys Stadium.

The newest addition to the tour will be the inaugural stop at the new Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, which is a short drive from the old Texas Stadium. Monster Energy® Supercross held its first race at Texas Stadium in March 1, 1975 with subsequent races through 1977. From 1983-2008, Texas Stadium was one of the marquee stops on the Monster Energy® Supercross schedule. With the establishment of the new Cowboys Stadium, a new area of tradition will be built off of the historic 30 races held in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

President and CEO Rob Dingman of the AMA added: “AMA Supercross is the premier competition of its kind on the planet. The AMA is pleased to once again be working with the FIM and Feld Motor Sports for the 2010 season to provide the world’s stage where the best-of-the-best will battle for championship honors. Since the beginning, AMA Supercross has grown in stature and significance. Today, the consolidated championship attracts the top riders from all over the globe. It’s going to be another incredible season of competition.

Monster Energy® AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, can bow on a glorious past which results in the rich history it presently has,” said Wolfgang Srb, President of the FIM Motocross Commission. “We are proud to count Monster Energy® Supercross amongst the 49 FIM World Championships. The 2009 season was most entertaining and kept the fans thrilled until the end. The FIM considers 2010 as a transition year and is confident that Feld Motor Sports will export Monster Energy® Supercross to new international horizons as of 2011. The fans that are supporting Monster Energy® AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship worldwide deserve it.

After a successful 2009 return to Salt Lake City, Monster Energy® Supercross will bring the action back to Rice-Eccles Stadium May 1. With the loyal support and commitment from the Utah Sports Commission, Monster Energy® Supercross will make its sixth stop at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

After looking at the 2010 AMA Supercross schedule, it’s exciting to see where we will be competing at next year,” said 2009 Monster Energy® Supercross champion James Stewart. “Most of the events will be similar to last year, but this year we’re going to go to the new Cowboys Stadium, and it’s the newest and biggest stadium in the United States. It’s going to be fun to compete in the billion dollar Cowboys Stadium. Also, I look forward to returning to the venues that I created winning memories at during the 2009 season.

Red Bull X-Fighters Texas

June 28, 2009 doublezero 4 comments

FORT WORTH, Texas (June 27, 2009) – Just as the setting sun was calming the blazing daytime heat, eleven of the world’s best freestyle motocross riders turned it right back up at Red Bull X-Fighters Texas. Nate Adams defeated defending event winner and 2008 series champion, Mat Rebeaud before a capacity crowd of more than 22,000 fans in the Historic Fort Worth Stockyards. Speaking of historic, Australian rider Cam Sinclair nailed the first-ever double backflip in a competition run, sending the fans into a frenzy. Thomas Pagès of France suffered a hip injury in an unsuccessful attempt at the first front flip in a competition run.

“Red Bull X-Fighters is the very top of FMX,” said Adams. “There is nothing like winning against such world-class athletes, and in front of my fellow Americans. I’m really happy I am healthy and riding well. It was all-around a great weekend for me.”

“There has never been a double backflip in competition before,” said Sinclair, who suffered bruised ankles from the hard landings. “I don’t really care about the fact I was eliminated in the semis – I’m just happy I’m more or less healthy.”

Japan’s Eigo Sato now leads the overall standing of the international series with 215 points, closely followed by Rebeaud (210 points) and Robbie Maddison (145 points).

The scene was authentic Texas, replete with Rodeo Queens, bull riding and even the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, who many say contributed to the heat. Supercross legend and current TORC off-road truck driver Ricky Johnson got the evening started by tearing into the purpose-built venue with a special passenger – Fort Worth Mayor Michael Moncrief, who welcomed the fans to the second-straight Red Bull X-Fighters held in his town, followed by members of the Red Bull Air Force, who made a high-speed drop-in onto the course.

The course was a genuine challenge for the riders, presenting them with more than 15 different jump combinations, thanks to the 850 truckloads of dirt that were sculpted in the three weeks leading up to the event.

Red Bull X-Fighters Texas Results:
1. Nate Adams (USA) 100 points
2. Mat Rebeaud (SUI) 80 points
3. Cameron Sinclair (AUS) 65 points
4. Eigo Sato (JPN) 55 points
5. Robbie Maddison (AUS) 45 points
6. Jeremy Stenberg (USA) 35 points
7. Dany Torres (SPA) 30 points
8. Adam Jones (USA) 25 points
9. Andre Villa (NOR) 20 points
10. Thomas Pages (FRA) 15 points
11. Jeff Kargola (USA) 10 points

The Texas stop is the third of five international Red Bull X-Fighters events in 2009, starting with the traditional kick-off at the 45,000-seat Monumental Plaza de Toros in Mexico City in March. Calgary hosted Canada’s first Red Bull X-Fighters on May 30 at the Calgary Stampede. Next up is the Las Ventas bullring in Madrid, which will enjoy its eighth-consecutive year with a stop on July 16-17. The series wraps up with a visit to London’s Battersea Power Station on August 22.

Red Bull X-Fighters was created in 2001, debuting in Valencia, Spain at the bullring where the legendary ‘Mad’ Mike Jones claimed victory. Since that historic night, Red Bull X-Fighters events have taken place in the world’s most iconic locations, including the famous bullrings in Madrid and Mexico City, Slane Castle in Ireland, the Sambodromo in Rio de Janeiro, a massive stone quarry in Wuppertal, Germany and the Stadion X-Lecia in Warsaw, Poland.

Red Bull X-Fighters Texas will be broadcast on ABC on Sunday, July 19 at 1:30 p.m. ET / 10:30 a.m., immediately following the British Open golf tournament.

Got lucky this week, two days that I set out to take pictures at a track it was nice and sunny!  Seminole today was a bit hot, but that is South Florida…  I only stayed about an hour or so, I had to get home and take care of our aging dog Metz.  I saw a lot of riders going to the track as I was leaving, sorry I missed you guys.

Meet Brinsley Dyess – Loretta Qualifier 2009

June 26, 2009 doublezero 5 comments

brinsleyMeet Brinsley!

I have known this young lady since she could barely walk!  Way back when, she played in mud puddles, held her own, and was usually covered in DIRT from head to toe.  I don’t think I ever remember her having shoes on at the track, lol.  She is definitely a girl who knows what she wants, and is a hard working serious racer.  I have been to Thundercross several times since they have re-opened and there she is, beating the boys at the races, puts in some serious laps on practice days, then gets out of her gear and works the concession stand.  When we say motocross is a family sport, it has never been more true than the Dyess Family.  Good luck at Loretta’s Brinsley!

Interview questions by Erica Walker:

Erica:   What got you interested in racing?

Brinsley: “It’s just in my blood – starting with my grandpa, my dad and then me and my brother. I am the third generation of it, and you know what they say – third time’s a charm!”

Erica:  Do you remember your first race?

Brinsley: “All I remember is that I was five, riding a JR50 at Thundercross MX Park. Let’s just say I fell a lot!”

Erica:  What is your favorite part about being at the track on the weekend?

Brinsley: “Friends, family and winning races!”

Erica:  Do you feel like you have to prove yourself a bit more because (1) you’re a female racer; and (2) you’ve grown in up a family that has been pretty well associated with MX?

Brinsley: “I definitely feel that I have to prove myself because of my family’s background. About the girl thing, I don’t see myself any different as anyone else on the track.”

Erica:  What’s your training regimen?

Brinsley: “Jogging, spin biking and doing motos three days of the week. Oh! No drinking carbonated drinks.”

Erica:  Are you home schooled or do you go to public school?

Brinsley: “I went to public school til 2nd grade. Then I realized that this is what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. So then I got home schooled like my brother.”

Erica:  What is the hardest part about racing?

Brinsley: “The training, pressure and mostly the competition.”

Erica:  What music gets you pumped for a race?

Brinsley: “Recently I’ve been getting pumped up on some punk rock 3oh3!”

Erica:  What was it like growing up and having pretty much all-around access to Thundercross?

Brinsley: “It has been very nice to have. I don’t ride it as much as I should, but I like having people to ride with all the time. My dad also runs the FLMX Series so I get to do all those tracks, as well.”

Erica:  Who would you like to thank?

Brinsley: “First I would like to thank the Lord Jesus Christ for making this all possible! Motosport Fox, Scott, Fly, FMF, Vortex, Bicycle Sports, Quality Turf, DyessMX.com, Thundercross MX Park,Florida Motocross Series, RoadandDirt.com, Pixley family, DZP, family & friends.”

Erica:  Thank you Brinsley!
